| L' EXPERIENCE DE LA CROIX
Le film se déroule dans un camp de prisonniers pour enfants. La vie quotidienne de ces garçons est, de façon inattendue et très émouvante, mise en parallèle avec les paroles, la musique et les images des Cantiques. Les expériences de ces jeunes délinquants, leurs regards, leurs expressions, sont celles des Saints Martyrs. Les références religieuses nous rappellent que ces enfants sont pris dans un processus historique. Quand les sociétés se désagrègent, le faible et l'innocent sont les premiers à en souffrir. Ils sont victimes du déclin de la société, comme dans ces récits de la Bible où le pauvre et l'homme sans défense sont broyés par la chute de l'Empire romain. Même la jeunesse du Christ a contenu un peu de la douleur et du désespoir de ces enfants. Mais dans leur cas, ce film représente le seul espoir d'un procès et d'une justice équitables. | EXPERIMENTUM CRUCIS
The film is set inside a prison camp for children. The daily lives of these boys are juxtaposed against the words, music and images of the Canticles. The experiences of these young offenders, their looks and expressions, are shown to correspond of those of the Holy Martyrs. The religious references serve to remind us that these boys are caught in an historical process; when societies disintegrate, it is the weak and the innocent who suffer. These boys are the victims of the breakup of society in the same way the Bible is said to describe how the poor and defenceless were crushed in the collapse of the Rome. Even the childhood of Jesus may have contained some of the pain and desperation of these children. But their case, beyond this film, there is little hope of a fair hearing, of justice. |
| Taras Popov est né en 1957 au Kazakhstan. Diplômé en médecine, il exerce comme pédiatre. Il est également psychiatre dans un pénitencier pour enfants. Il commence alors à utiliser le cinéma comme moyen psychothérapeutique. L'EXPERIENCE DE LA CROIX est le premier film qu'il a réalise avec Vladimir Tulkin.
Born in Karaganda, Kazakhstan in 1957, Taras Popov graduated as a medical doctor in 1982 and has been working as psychiatrist in the Alma Ata prison for young offenders since 1984. In 1993 he began using a video camera for purposes of research and therapy and the resulting footage became the basis for this documentary film.
| Vladimir Tulkin, né en 1953 Kazakhstan, est diplômé de l'Ecole de cinéma de Leningrad (1987). Depuis, il travaille comme réalisateur au studio Kazakhfilm à Alma Ata. Il a précédemment signé plusieurs documentaires.
Born in Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan in 1953, Vladimir Tulkin graduated from the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, TV and Cinema in 1987 and has worked at the Kazakhfilm Studio since then in various capacities, including screenwriter and stage manager. This is his first collaboration with Taras Popov.
