Liam et Tina forment un jeune couple. Avec leur bébé d'un an, ils habitent dans une propriété en banlieue, proche d'une petite ville, quelque part en Irlande. Liam est caporal de l'armée. Tard, un soir, il arrive chez lui complètement ivre. Une violente dispute s'engage entre Liam et Tina et se poursuit jusqu'au petites heures du matin. À mesure que le ton monte et que chacun tente d'avoir raison, quelques retours en arrière nous expliquent la façon dont les deux personnages ont passé la journée. Nous apprenons ainsi que Tina n'est pas heureuse en ménage et que Liam est secrètement amoureux d'une jeune femme du voisinage. Malgré la teneur des propos, chacun essaie de mesurer ses paroles pour ne pas trop se compromettre. Mais contraints malgré eux de se dire leurs quatre vérités en face, ils avoueront ce qu'aucun, jusqu'à présent, ne voulait entendre. Ce dénouement inattendu aura de fâcheuses conséquences. | GUILTRIP
Liam and Tina are a young married couple with a one-year-old baby who live in a housing estate on the outskirts of a small Irish town. Liam is an army corporal. Late one night, he arrives home drunk. A violent row develops between Liam and Tina and continues until dawn. As we watch the progress of this argument, we also see, through flashbacks, how each of them have spent his/her respective day. Tina's day is characterised by the chance encounters and spontaneous actions of a woman who is trapped in a marriage she hates. Liam, on the other hand, spends his evening obsessively pursuing a local woman whom he wants to seduce. As the flashbacks interweave, it gradually emerges that both of them have done something during the day which neither wants to reveal to the other. In a dramatic and shocking climax, we discover that their secret actions, however, have hugely different consequences. |
| Né en 1958 à Limerick, en Irlande, Gerard Stembridge est diplômé du University College de Dublin. Après ses études, il travaille comme metteur en scène de théâtre, comédien, et professeur. En 1984, il se joint à l'équipe de la Radio-Television Eire où il réalise des pièces de théâtre filmées, des longs métrages et des comédies. Par la suite, il devient auteur et réalisateur pigiste pour la radio et la télévision. Avec GUILTRIP, il signe son premier long métrage de fiction.
| Born in Limerick, Ireland in 1958, Gerard Stembridge graduated from University College Dublin in 1981 after which he spent three years working as a theatre director, actor and teacher. He joined Radio-Television Eire in 1984 where he directed drama, features and comedy. After leaving RTE in 1989, Stembridge embarked on a career as a freelance writer and director in Ireland and Britain, for both radio and television. Over the past decade Stembridge has written and directed seven stage plays including "Leaving" (1987), "1992" (1989), "Betrayals" (1991) and "The Girls of Summer" (1993), and three librettos for the Opera Theatre Company. In 1993 he directed "A Comedy of Errors" at Dublin's celebrated Abbey Theatre. GUILTRIP marks his debut as a film director.
