Fernando Ramos da Silva, enfant de "favela", est devenu mondialement connu, à 11 ans, pour avoir joué le rôle principal dans le film d'Hector Babenco, PIXOTE (1980). Suite au météorique et éphémère succès en tant qu'acteur, poussé par la misère et le manque de perspectives, Fernando a sombré dans la marginalité. En 1987, à 19 ans, le jeune homme s'est trouvé pris au piège, lors d'une opération policière, dans une maison de la périphérie de Sao Paulo. Ce fut là qu'on mit fin à sa vie, par huit coups de feu tirés à bout portant. QUI A TUÉ PIXOTE? navigue entre l'aspect humain et la vie professionnelle de Fernando. D'un côté, il y a le jeune sensible, né dans une réalité misérable, qui rêve d'être un acteur connu. Fernando Ramos da Silva, a child of the Sao Paulo "favela", gained worldwide celebrity at age 11 when he played the title character in Hector Babenco's PIXOTE (1980). But his fame and his success as an actor were fleeting. Roles were scarce and misery abundant. Largely uneducated, da Silva had trouble reading the scripts for parts he was auditioning and the steadiest work he could find was sweeping up the floor of a studio. In 1987, still a teenager, da Silva was caught up in a .police raid on a house on the edge of the city. Eight point-blank gun shots put a permanent end to his dreams. Based on the facts of da Silva's life, mainly as recounted in "Pixote, the Law of the Strongest" by Brazilian journalist José Loureiro and "Pixote No More" by Cida Venâncio, da Silva's young widow, WHO KILLED PIXOTE? navigates between the public persona and the private individual and attempts to place the tragedy of da Silva in the context of the poverty and injustice that still control the destiny of the "pixotes", the street children of the Brazilian slums. |
| Né en 1944, José Joffily travaille depuis plus de 20 ans dans le cinéma. Il débute en tant que directeur de la photographie pour ensuite poursuivre une carrière dans la scénarisation, la production et la réalisation. Son film précédent, A MALDIÇÃO DO SAMPAKU, a remporté de nombreux prix dans des festivals locaux.
| Born in João Pessoa, Brazil in 1944, José Joffily began his career in the cinema as camera assistant and quickly became an accomplished cinematographer. Over the past two decades Jofilly worked as screenwriter, producer and director, earning numerous awards along the way. His previous film, A MALDIÇÃO DO SAMPAKU (1993), won several prizes in Brazilian festivals.
