Filmé sur une période de deux ans, FIDDLEFEST suit la tournée de Roberta Guaspari-Tzavaras et de son groupe d'élèves issus de différentes écoles du quartier East Harlem de New York. Après un premier concert au Madison Square Garden, ils poursuivent leur série de spectacles au Carnegie Hall en jouant auprès de grands noms tels que Isaac Stern, Itzhak Perlman, Midori, Arnold Steinhardt, et d'autres violonistes réputés du milieu de la musique jazz, classique et country. En 1980, lorsque Guaspari-Tzavaras entreprend un programme d'études musicales à East Harlem, son but est surtout de former des élèves afin qu'ils développent le respect de soi et le sens de la discipline. C'est grâce à un programme d'enseignement rigoureux qu'elle parvient à atteindre ses objectifs. Quand, en 1990, le Conseil de l'éducation de la ville de New York décide d'abolir son poste, Guaspari-Tzavaras tient à continuer sa mission en prenant d'autres moyens pour y parvenir. FIDDLEFEST suit le cheminement intellectuel de cette femme dévouée à une cause qui lui tient à coeur - tout pour l'amour de la musique. | SMALL WONDES
Filmed over a period of two years, FIDDLEFEST follows Roberta Guaspari-Tzavaras and her students from the schools of East Harlem, to Madison Square Garden and, ultimately, to the stage of Carnegie Hall where they performed with Isaac Stern, Itzhak Perlman, Midori, Arnold Steinhardt and great violinists from the worlds of classical, jazz and country music. Guaspari-Tzavaras began the East Harlem Violin Program in 1980 with a vision of inner-city youngsters developing self-esteem and discipline through rigorous instruction and uncompromising standards. When her position was suddenly eliminated by the New York City Board of Education in 1990, Guaspari-Tzavaras set about to keep the program going by other means. FIDDLEFEST follows her in her single-minded efforts on behalf of the program in particular and music education in general. |

| Founder and conductor of the Late Late Concerts at Lincoln Center in New York, Associate Conductor of the Denver Symphony and guest conductor of numerous American orchestras, Allan Miller has produced and directed over 35 films and television programs in United States and around the world. Two of his films have won Academy Awards: FROM MAO TO MOZART: ISAAC STERN IN CHINA, and THE BOLERO, with Zubin Mehta and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
