À la suite du démantèlement du régime communiste en Mongolie, on assiste, entre autres bouleversements, au dispersement des coopératives. Parmi les secteurs touchés par ces soudains changements, celui du commerce du bétail tombe dans les mains de l'entreprise privée. Les autorités gouvernementales décident de distribuer des chevaux aux habitants d'un village. Aranzal, un des villageois, n'est pas content avec celui qu'on vient de lui donner. C'est donc à contrecoeur qu'il l'emmène chez lui. Expert en chevaux, son père Danzan remarque tout de suite que la bête est extrêmement rapide. Il décide alors de l'entraîner pour la course hippique qui doit bientôt avoir lieu. Mais voici qu'à la suite d'un pari, Aranzal perd le cheval au profit d'un certain Damcha. Malheureux, il tente de le racheter. Entre-temps, l'animal s'est mis à boiter d'une jambe, ce qui ne semble pas trop gêner son ancien propriétaire. Aranzal parie de nouveau et cette fois-ci, il gagne. Un événement inattendu fait, par contre, tout basculer. | HEAVEN'S ANIMAL
Following the collapse of the communist regime in Mongolia, the system of cooperatives is dismantled and livestock is given over to private ownership. When the horses are distributed among the peasants, Aranzal, son of old Danzan, is given a skinny red animal. Aranzal is not happy with his horse, but he has no say in the matter and must take what he is given. When he returns home, however, old Danzan, who is an expert in horses, realizes immediately that this animal has a talent for running. Old Danzan considers it a gift from heaven and he immediately sets out to train the horse to race in the National Naadam Festival, with a friend, a young boy named Bilguun, as its jockey. Danzan's horse catches the eye of Damcha, who was in charge of the distribution of horses and has been looking to win the race for himself. Clearly he missed out on this horse. So he schemes to get it back... |
| Née en 1956 à Ulan Bator, en Mongolie, Nansalyn Uranchimeg étudie le cinéma en Russie. De retour dans son pays, elle travaille pour le théâtre et le cinéma. En 1991, elle réalise SHACKLES, son premier long métrage dont elle a écrit le scénario.
| Born in Ulan Bator, Mongolia in 1956, Nansalyn Uranchimeg studied screenwriting in Moscow 1975-1980 and, on her return to Mongolia worked chiefly as a writer in the cinema and in the theatre. In 1991 she made her directorial debut with SHACKLES (from her own script), which won a prize for best Asian film at the Berlin Festival.
