Maggie Cheung qui, dans le film, joue son propre rôle, celui d'une des plus grandes vedettes du cinéma asiatique, débarque à Paris pour interpréter le personnage d'Irma Vep dans un remake des VAMPIRES, célèbre "serial" réalisé par Louis Feuillade entre 1915 et 1916. Seule à Paris, ne parlant pas un mot de français, Maggie communique du mieux qu'elle peut avec ceux qui l'entourent. Parmi eux, le réalisateur René Vidal qui voit en elle l'unique possibilité d'une Irma Vep moderne, proche de Catwoman. Maggie, dans les brumes du décalage horaire et à travers les péripéties de sa vie quotidienne durant le tournage, va s'efforcer de comprendre ce qu'on lui dit au juste. 		IRMA VEP

Maggie Cheung, acting out her own role as one of the great stars of contemporary Chinese cinema, comes to Paris to play Irma Vep (the character first played by Musidora) in a remake of the famous silent film series VAMPIRES directed by Louis Feuillade between 1915 and 1916. Alone in Paris, without a word of French, Ms. Cheung communicates as best she can with the those around her. On the set everyone must speak to her in broken English in order to be understood, especially the director, René Vidal, who sees in her the modern incarnation of Irma Vep, a pop heroine in the mould of Catwoman. Amidst the fog of jetlag and miscommunication, Ms. Cheung tries, at once, to find her way through the daily shooting schedule and to understand the real nature of the demands being made on her.
Né à Paris en 1955, Olivier Assayas a une maîtrise de l'École des Beaux-Arts (1984) et sa carrière au cinéma commence avec des courts métrages et des articles publiés dans "Les Cahiers du cinéma". Il a écrit les scénarios de PASSAGE SECRET de Laurent Perrin, de RENDEZ-VOUS et du LIEU DU CRIME, tous deux d'André Téchiné, de L'UNIQUE de Jérôme Diamant-Berger et d'AVRIL BRISÉ de Liria Begeja. Ses propres films en tant que réalisateur sont: DÉSORDRE (1986), L'ENFANT DE L'HIVER (1989), PARIS S'ÉVEILLE (1991), UNE NOUVELLE VIE (1993) et L'EAU FROIDE (1994).
Born in Paris in 1955, Olivier Assayas earned his masters at the École des Beaux-Arts in 1984 and began his career in the cinema making shorts and writing for the "Cahiers du cinéma" (where he edited two special issues, "Made in USA" and "Made in Hong Kong"). Assayas has written several screenplays, including Laurent Perrin's PASSAGE SECRET, André Téchiné's RENDEZ-VOUS and LE LIEU DU CRIME, Jérôme Diamant-Berger's L'UNIQUE and Liria Begeja's AVRIL BRISÉ. As director he has made: DÉSORDRE (1986), L'ENFANT DE L'HIVER (1989), PARIS S'ÉVEILLE (1991), UNE NOUVELLE VIE (1993) and L'EAU FROIDE (1994).
