Mariés depuis trois ans, Takashi et Yuriko forment un couple, en apparence, sans histoires. Lui enseigne dans une école spécialisée dans les études intensives et son travail le tient occupé jour et nuit. Takashi est un homme agréable et intelligent, avec un grand sens des responsabilités pour tout ce qui a trait à sa vie professionnelle, au détriment d'une vie familiale normale. En plus des travaux ménagers, Yuriko est dactylo. C'est un emploi qu'elle exerce à la pige chez elle, pour essayer d'oublier les jours où elle rêvait de suivre une carrière de pianiste. Mais à mesure que le temps passe, elle devient de plus en plus anxieuse et dépressive. Jusqu'au moment où elle apprend à son mari qu'une "organisation secrète est en train de tramer une conspiration à grande échelle". Bientôt, Yuriko est diagnostiquée comme souffrant de schizophrénie et d'une obsession proche de la paranoïa. Contre toute attente, Takashi va faire tout en son pouvoir pour libérer sa femme des démons qui l'habitent. | OKAERI
Takashi and Yuriko are a young married couple who live in a Japanese commuter suburb. Takashi teaches at a cram school and Yuriko works at home as a typist and although neither is doing what he or she would really like, their life together appears stable. Stable but cool. Yuriko had always dreamed of becoming a concert pianist and the keys she had hoped to be tapping now are not those of her word processor. But Takashi is busy - he works late almost every evening as well as on weekends - and though he is solicitous and caring to his wife, he doesn't take note of her alienation. Then, one day, Takashi comes home to find that Yuriko has gone out, apparently in the middle of her work. When she returns home, Yuriko is carrying a gift-wrapped box - containing, she explains, a talisman that will lose its power if anyone looks at it. The next morning, when Takashi awakes, he finds Yuriko gone again. He rushes out and follows her on a peculiar odyssey with stops in a park and at the doorway of a strange house. What can be bothering Yuriko? |
| Né à Tokyo en 1963, Makoto Shinozaki étudie la psychologie à l'Université Rikkyo, pour ensuite travailler comme critique de cinéma dans différentes revues spécialisées. Avec OKAERI, il signe son premier long métrage de fiction.
| Born in Tokyo in 1963, Makoto Shinozaki studied psychology at Rikkyo University and worked in a movie theatre after graduation. He subsequently became a projectionist and film critic, publishing reviews and interviews in numerous Japanese magazines and newspapers. OKAERI marks his debut as a director.
