Les Français se retireront dans leurs terres. Les Canadiens se demanderont s'ils ont été vaincus, conquis ou abandonnés. Tout pays est fondé sur un mythe. After the battle of the Plains of Abraham, September 13, 1759, nothing would be the same again. The English would dominate the North American continent and impose their language upon the entire globe. The French would retreat to their own territories. The Canadiens would ask themselves if they had been defeated, conquered or abandoned. Every country is founded on a myth. Wolfe and Montcalm, who died in battle, would give birth to Canada and the Province of Quebec. A sometimes funny, sometimes moving, always ironic account of the meeting between playwright René-Daniel Dubois and documentarist Jacques Godbout on the mined terrain of history. |
| Né à Montréal en 1933, Jacques Godbout fut professeur au University College d'Addis-Abeba, en Ethiopie, avant d'entrer à l'ONF en 1958. Cinéaste prolifique, il est également un auteur généreux. Sa bibliographie est tout aussi importante que sa filmographie. Jacques Godbout a participé à de nombreux colloques nationaux et internationaux à titre de spécialiste des mass média et son apport au cinéma et à la littérature a été récompensé à plusieurs reprises. Parmi ses nombreux films, soulignons: IXE-13 (1972), LA GAMMICK (1974), DERRIÈRE L'IMAGE (1978), COMME EN CALIFORNIE (1983), EN DERNIER RECOURS (1987), ALIAS WILL JAMES (1988), POUR L'AMOUR DU STRESS (1991), LE MOUTON NOIR (1992) et L'AFFAIRE NORMAN WILLIAM (1994).
| Born in Montreal in 1933, Jacques Godbout studied at the University of Montreal and taught at the University of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia before returning to Montreal to work in publicity. He joined the National Film Board of Canada in 1958 and directed his first short three years later. Since then, between his numerous books and essays, Godbout has found time to direct over twenty documentaries and four fiction features. Among his recent films are: EN DERNIER RECOURS (1987), ALIAS WILL JAMES (1988), POUR L'AMOUR DU STRESS (1991), THE BLACK SHEEP (1992) and THE NORMAN WILLIAM AFFAIR (1994).
