A TRUE STORY

Jalili is looking for a young actor to play in his next film. He finds someone who appears to fit the bill: a 12-year-old boy from a poor family who already has working experience. But soon after shooting begins, Jalili discovers that his young star is stricken with a serious illness. He stops the fiction and devotes himself to the true story of this boy in his struggle to survive. Jalili documents the boy's confrontation with the illness itself, the medical corps and the bureaucracy involved in his case. As well, he chronicles the boy's slow awakening from misery and despair to a faint dawn of hope and recovery. This evolution is not without its risks and obstacles, however. Old wounds are opened in the process. But Jalili - and his subject - clearly feel the risks are worth taking.
