Petit homme aux rêves de grandeur, Marty Fine, ex-boxeur poids moyen, est témoin d'un événement inattendu: un règlement de comptes impliquant des membres de la pègre. Un vieux gangster lui propose alors de sauver sa peau. Il devra tuer quelqu'un ou se faire tuer lui-même. Et garder naturellement le silence au sujet de ce qu'il a vu. La victime visée est un directeur de club de nuit qu'ultimement Marty ne peut se résoudre à descendre. L'ex-boxeur est à nouveau dans les cordes, livré à lui-même. Marty Fine is a small-time man with dreams of the big-time. One night, just as he gets a nibble for his latest get-rich-quick scheme, the ex-middleweight boxer sees something he shouldn't - a mob hit. Marty promises to keep his lips sealed but the old gangster who ordered the hit wants a guarantee of his silence. He offers Marty a deal: commit a murder himself for the mob or they'll have to ensure his silence by other means. But when the time comes to shoot the scamming club owner, Marty finds he just can't do it. Marty is now back on the ropes. For the next twenty-four hours he struggles to survive but this time there won't be any bell to save him. |
| Après avoir reçu son diplôme de l'École de cinéma de UCLA, Michael Hacker est engagé par les Zoetrope Studios et devient assistant de Wim Wenders sur HAMMETT et de Francis Coppola sur ONE FROM THE HEART. Il a par la suite été l'auteur de scénarios et de pièces de théâtre. On lui doit les pièces suivantes qu'il a écrites et mises en scène: "Long Time Coming", "I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts" et "Spoil". Le premier film qu'il a écrit et réalisé s'intitule "Downtown", un court métrage de fiction de 45 minutes. THE DESTINY OF MARTIN FINE est son premier long métrage.
| After graduating from the UCLA Film School, Michael Hacker went to work for Zoetrope Studios, assisting Wim Wenders on HAMMETT and Francis Coppola on ONE FROM THE HEART. Hacker began writing scripts and plays. For the stage he wrote and directed "Long Time Coming", "I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts" and "Spoil". For the screen he has written scripts for a variety of actors and producers. He wrote and directed a 45-minute dramatic film, "Downtown". THE DESTINY OF MARTY FINE is his first feature.
