En s'inspirant des textes de Platon, les auteurs du film proposent une réflexion sur la notion de l'amour selon une perspective canadienne contemporaine. C'est ainsi qu'un groupe d'intellectuels, d'artistes et d'écrivains donnent leur point de vue sur "The Symposium Tapes", une série de films-dans-le-film qui examinent ce thème d'après la pensée de chaque participant. Par la suite, les mêmes collaborateurs (ou "symposiastes") se réunissent autour d'Adrian Childe, cinéaste fictif, pour soutenir leur thèse et échanger des idées sur la question. À travers leurs propos, on découvre des vérités saisissantes sur la complexité de ce sentiment universel qu'on appelle l'amour. 		SYMPOSIUM

Inspired by Plato, SYMPOSIUM explores the meaning and nature of love from a contemporary Canadian perspective. A group of leading Canadian academics, artists and writers express their views artistically via "The Symposium Tapes", a series of films-within-the-film examining the theme from each individual's personal point of view. These same individuals are then gathered in a symposium setting where they elaborate on their views as they screen "The Symposium Tapes" for the first time. The whole thing is hosted by Adrian Childe, a fictional filmmaker who leads us on a journey into the hearts and minds of the "symposiasts".
Journaliste et cinéaste, Nik Sheehan a réalisé "No Sad Songs" (un des premiers documentaires abordant le thème du sida) avant de signer SYMPOSIUM, son premier long métrage.
Canadian journalist and filmmaker Nik Sheehan previously directed "No Sad Songs", one of the first major documentaries on AIDS. SYMPOSIUM is his first feature.
