| UN AIR DE FAMILLE
Après avoir triomphé avec "Cuisine et dépendances", pièce de théâtre puis long métrage, le couple Jaoui-Bacri remet ça avec cet AIR DE FAMILLE où le rire fuse de partout, provoqué par les attitudes (qui se veulent héroïques) d'une famille française ordinaire: politesse forcée, opinions non avouées, concessions incessantes. Mais ce vendredi soir sera différent des autres car le fragile équilibre familial va voler en éclats. Composition de la famille: la mère, le type même de la mère abusive, les deux fils (le préféré et l'autre), la fille non mariée, trente ans avec une vivace propension à l'emmerde, deux belles-filles, l'une célébrant son anniversaire, l'autre ne voulant pas révéler son âge. On se retrouve comme chaque vendredi dans le bistrot du fils aîné (nous sommes en province) pour aller dîner au restaurant. Soudain, grâce à un élément déclencheur qui ne demandait qu'à être déclenché, tout le monde va faire éclater sa gangue. Et les excès et les égoïsmes vont apparaître au grand jour. | UN AIR DE FAMILLE
This is the story of a typical French family. Every Friday evening they meet in the café that Henri inherited from his father and then head over to "Aux Ducs de Bretagne", the "chic" restaurant of the quarter. Regular attenders at this traditional family reunion include: Mother, her two sons, Henri and Philippe, her daughter Betty, and her daughters-in-law Yolande and Arlette. But on this Friday evening, a string of odd incidents disrupts the immutable routine. For a start, Arlette, Henri's wife, is absent, gone for a week of "reflection". This news, which should have been ignored or simply glossed over, instead develops into a full-blown "scandal" which, in turn, focuses the spotlight on other private family dramas. Of which there are plenty. Dramas, tragedies and farces. |
| Après avoir été deux fois refusé à l'IDHEC à Paris, Cédric Klapisch est allé prendre des cours à New York et l'expérience (deux ans) lui a été plus qu'enrichissante. Il a réalisé quatre courts métrages entre 1983 et 1986, des films publicitaires et corporatifs, puis RIENS DU TOUT (1992), LE PÉRIL JEUNE (1995) et CHACUN CHERCHE SON CHAT (1996, également présenté cette année au Festival des films du monde).
| Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France in 1961, Cédric Klapisch studied philosophy and film in Paris and then at New York University. He worked as a cameraman, directed shorts in the United States 1983-85 and returned to France to make his first feature, IN TRANSIT, in 1986. He has since directed RIENS DU TOUT (1992), LE PÉRIL JEUNE (1995) and CHACUN CHERCHE SON CHAT (1996, also being shown at this yearOs World Film Festival).
