Ann travaille comme vendeuse d'électroménager. Pour des raisons professionnelles, son petit ami a dû partir en Europe de l'Est pour une période indéterminée, et il lui manque beaucoup. Un jour, il l'appelle pour lui annoncer le plus simplement du monde leur rupture. Ann encaisse apparemment la chose sans broncher, mais finit par avaler le contenu d'un flacon de dissolvant. Après un lavage d'estomac, elle quitte l'hôpital mais le psychiatre lui donne à tout hasard son numéro de téléphone. Plus tard, en proie à une grande tristesse, elle décide de l'appeler. Au lieu du médecin, c'est Don Henderson qu'elle a au bout du fil. Dans la journée, il gagne sa vie comme agent immobilier dans le bureau de son père. Le soir, il occupe le standard téléphonique de la "Hope Line". Don éprouve le besoin irrésistible d'aider les âmes en détresse. L'entretien avec Ann se déroule de façon bizarre. Mais elle finit par accepter son sort, et reprend donc son travail. Au magasin, elle observe une fillette accroupie devant un caméscope en marche, en train de confier ses soucis à l'appareil. Ann pense alors que cet instrument pourrait lui servir d'outil thérapeutique pour mettre fin à ses angoisses et ses tourments existentiels et pourquoi pas, renouer sa relation avec son ex-ami. | THINGS I NEVER TOLD YOU
Don works as a property salesman on a housing estate belonging to his father. In his free time he does volunteer work for a telephone help-line service, trying to bring hope to people in distress. Ann works in a video and photographic equipment store. Her boyfriend, a journalist, is on assignment for a month in Eastern Europe and she's beginning to miss him. One day she gets a call from him informing her, flatly, that their relationship is over. At first she seems to take the news calmly, but before long she's taken a bottleful of nail polish remover and has had to have her stomach pumped. Back home one evening, thoroughly depressed, she calls the help-line and reaches Don. Don would like to help but doesn't know how to deal with her. At work Ann sees a small girl pouring her heart out to one of the video cameras and it gives her an idea. She takes a camera home and uses it to give vent to her own grief. The next morning she brings the video cassette to Paul, a friend who works at Federal Express. She tells Paul to send the cassette to her boyfriend. But Paul has other ideas... |
| Né en 1962 à Barcelone, Isabel Coixet étudie l'histoire à l'Université de cette ville. Auteur de bandes dessinées pour divers magazines, elle signe par la suite des textes publicitaires. En 1990, elle devient co-fondatrice de la société de production "Eddie Saeta" où elle réalise des films publicitaires et des vidéoclips. Sa filmographie comprend: "Míra y verás" (1984) et DEMASIADO VIÉJO PARA MORIR JÓVEN (1987).
| Born in Barcelona in 1962, Isabel Coixet studied history at the University of Barcelona and began her professional career writing for comic books and popular magazines. Eventually she gravitated toward advertising, writing copy and directing shorts. In 1990 Coixet co-founded an independent production company, Eddie Saeta S.A., for which she has directed numerous TV commercials and music videos. Her filmography includes: "Míra y verás" (1984) and DEMASIADO VIÉJO PARA MORIR JÓVEN (1987).
