Archie vit seul en compagnie d'Anya, sa gouvernante. Vieil homme riche, imbu de philosophie et plein d'humour, il se sent "imparfait" en tant qu'être humain. Il aspire à l'affection et désire entretenir des liens parfaits avec toutes les créatures peuplant la planète Terre. Il ne trouve la paix que lorsque son corps est ressourcé grâce à l'amour et à l'énergie positive des autres. Son imperfection, estime-t-il, est une maladie qu'il s'agit de guérir par tous les moyens. Il engage des serviteurs qui, pour l'aider à accomplir son être, doivent boucher les orifices de son corps. Ceux-ci mettent donc un doigt qui dans le nez, qui dans les oreilles d'Archie... Le véritable message du film se révèle à la fin, lorsque se réalise enfin le dernier voeu de ce vieil excentrique: "L'unité jusqu'au dernier souffle de vie". Sauf que... | SEVEN SERVANTS
Archie is a rich old man who lives with his maid Anya. He is philosophical and cheerful but he continues to have a feeling of "incompletion" as a human being. He longs for affection, the sensation of being one with all the creatures on earth. He finds peace and contentment only when energized by love. Archie sees this "incomplete" state as some sort of infirmity and he is determined to cure himself. This will require infusing his body with energy. Toward this end Archie hires four servants from four different parts of the world to fill his four facial openings. Each servant places an index finger in an ear or nostril and Archie asks his friend Blade and his true love Hilda to complete the process... |
| Né à Téhéran (Iran), en 1954, Daryush Shokof écrit son premier scénario dès l'âge de onze ans. À quinze ans, il suit ses parents aux États-Unis. Après des études de physique et de mathématiques à la Eastern New Mexico University, il s'installe à New York et prend des cours de cinéma à la New York School of the Arts. C'est à cette période qu'il expose ses dessins et continue à écrire des scénarios. En 1984, il part pour l'Allemagne où il poursuit sa carrière en peinture. Six ans plus tard, en 1990, il invente le terme "maximalisme", pour exprimer une nouvelle approche dans l'art pictural. De retour à New York, en 1992, il écrit d'autres scénarios, s'engage de plus en plus dans la peinture et la sculpture et découvre le cinéma et la vidéo. Globe-trotter et artiste multimédia, on lui doit: "Angels Are Wired" (vidéo, 1992), DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED (1994) et BREATHFUL OR BEN-HUR, THE BREATHLESS TAXI DRIVER IN CASABLANCA (vidéo, 1995).
| Born in Tehran, Iran in 1954, Daryush Shokof emigrated to the United States at the age of fifteen. After graduating from Eastern New Mexico University in physics and mathematics, Shokof moved to New York where he attended the New York School of Arts and began <\n>writing screenplays. In 1984 he went to Europe to pursue his career as a painter, exhibited his works in Europe and America and returned to New York in 1992 to begin <\n>making videos and films. He has directed: "Angels Are Wired" (1992), DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED (1994) and BREATHFUL OR BEN-HUR, THE BREATHLESS TAXI DRIVER IN CASABLANCA (1995).
