Dans les derniers mois d'une guerre qu'il n'a pas faite, un homme décide de devenir un héros. Ou plutôt "de passer" pour un héros, de s'inventer une vie admirable, plus belle, plus riche que la sienne. Dans une époque qui se prête à toutes les confusions, dans le Paris étrange de l'hiver 1944/45, il va devenir un artiste du mensonge et, par omissions et allusions, il va également se construire un personnage hors du commun. Après avoir réussi à s'introduire dans les milieux de la Résistance, il est appelé à de hautes fonctions dans la zone d'occupation française en Allemagne. One evening in November 1944, during the final months of a war he didn't fight, Albert, an undistinguished young man from the provinces, decides to become a hero.
