À l'occasion de leur dixième anniversaire de mariage, Leonor et Rogério donnent une réception qui a lieu sur la terrasse de leur somptueux palais à Ponta Delgada, dans l'archipel des Açores. Parmi les invités, se trouvent de très bons amis du couple: Irène, une célèbre actrice grecque mondialement connue, et Michel, son amant, un Français bon vivant et prétendu Don Juan. Par instinct, ce dernier se croit obligé de séduire Leonor qui, à son tour, répond favorablement à ses gestes d'attention. Rogério et Irène s'en rendent compte, mais trouvent cela plutôt amusant. Quand la fête bat son plein, un orage violent se déclare, obligeant les convives à chercher un endroit où s'abriter. Cinq ans plus tard, Irène et Michel retournent aux Açores revoir leurs amis. De nouveau, ils sont invités à dîner au palais. Michel n'a pas oublié Leonor. Même après tout ce temps, celle-ci n'a pas cessé de penser à lui. Alors qu'ils reprennent ce jeu de séduction interrompu il y a cinq ans, quelque chose d'inattendu a lieu. | PARTY
To celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary, Leonor and Rogério hold a garden party on the terrace of their mansion in Ponta Delgada, in the Azores. Among their guests are two special friends - Irene, a famous Greek actress and Michel a French bon vivant, a would-be Don Juan and Irene's lover. Michel feels it's his duty to court Leonor, who doesn't seem to mind his attentions. Not only does the game not go unnoticed by Rogério and Irene, but it actually seems to amuse them. Suddenly, just as the party is in full swing, a strong storm blows over, sending the guests running for cover. Five years later, Irene and Michel return to the Azores and are once again invited to have dinner at the mansion. Michel has not forgotten Leonor, and she in turn has remained curious about him. Their flirtation starts up again... |
| Né au Portugal en 1908, Manoel de Oliveira se lance dans le cinéma dès l'âge de dix-huit ans, d'abord comme comédien. Aujourd'hui, il est considéré comme le réalisateur le plus représentatif du Portugal dont il a su restituer le climat culturel et social. Depuis quelque temps, ses films sont présentés dans de nombreux festivals internationaux. | Born in Porto, Portugal in 1908, Manoel de Oliveira has been directing films since his first short, "Douro, faina fluvial", in 1931, but it was only in the '70s that he was "discovered" by international critics and his reputation established. Oliveira made his first feature, ANIKI-BOBO, in 1941, but didn't direct another film until 1956. Since THE PAST AND THE PRESENT in 1971, however, Oliveira has been considerably busier. Among the films he has directed since 1980 are: FRANCISCA (1981), THE SATIN SHOE (1985), MY CASE (1986), DE PROFUNDIS (1987), THE CANNIBALS (1988), NO, OR THE VAIN GLORY OF COMMANDING (1990), THE DIVINE COMEDY (1991), THE DAY OF DESPAIR (1992), ABRAHAM'S VALLEY (1993), A CAIXA (1994) and THE CONVENT (1995), the latter three shown at the World Film Festival.
