Lulu, une Vietnamienne "mariée sur catalogue", pratiquement commandée par la poste, a été achetée et vendue certes, mais jamais possédée. Derrière son comptoir, au rayon des cosmétiques du grand magasin où elle travaille, la mystérieuse et exotique Lulu est impeccable. Mais sous son maquillage parfait, elle cache un passé terrible et un présent assez agité. Frustrée par le conservatisme de ses parents qui lui reprochent d'être responsable de leur malheur, elle est aussi poursuivie par son minable de mari, Lucky, et par son ami opportuniste Clive, ainsi que par un cinéaste de documentaires qui ne lâche pas prise, Miguel. Un désir commun lie les trois hommes. Malgré leur insistance, Lulu leur échappe, gardant ses secrets intacts. | LULU
Lulu, a Vietnamese mail-order bride, has been sold and bought but she can't be owned. Mysterious and exotic, she presents an immaculate facade working at a cosmetics counter in a department store. But, behind her flawless makeup, she conceals a terrible past and a troubled present. Frustrated by her traditional Vietnamese parents who blame her for their unhappiness, Lulu is also pursued by her seedy, ineffectual husband, Lucky, his opportunistic friend Clive and a documentary filmmaker, Miguel. A chain of desire binds the three men together. Despite the intensity of their claims on her, Lulu eludes them all, disappearing into her mirror, her secrets intact. |
| Né en 1964 à Madras (Inde), Srinivas Krishna a grandi à Toronto. Il étudie l'histoire de l'art et la peinture à l'Université de Toronto, puis la prise de vue à la Temple University à Philadelphie où il réalise ses premiers courts métrages. Il est l'auteur d'une pièce de théâtre, "The Performing Art". Ses films sont: "Fingered!" (1988), "The Turned Head" (1989), MASALA (1991), "Burning Skin" (télévision, 1994) et "Tell Me What You Saw" (1994).
| Born in Madras, India in 1964, Srinivas Krishna was raised in Toronto and formed his own dramatic group, "Theatre at a Point", while still in high school. He studied art history at the University of Toronto and cinematography at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he also began making short films. His filmography includes: "Fingered!" (1988), "The Turned Head" (1989), MASALA (1991), "Burning Skin" (1994) and "Tell Me What You Saw" (1994).
