Quelque part en Chine, dans une localité éloignée des grands centres, vit une communauté d'honnêtes gens. Un jour, le batelier Manman se présente, apportant avec lui des nouvelles de l'étranger et vantant les mérites de la civilisation extérieure. Ses propos attisent la curiosité de la population, et tout particulièrement celle de Yang Mei, une tendre et belle veuve. Liu Yaoxian, le médecin local, porteur d'une potion magique, le Erxlang, et respecté de tous les autochtones, est amoureux de la jeune femme. Après une série de vicissitudes, il réussit à gagner la faveur du public et le coeur de la belle. In a pretty, small town in the Chinese hinterland, lives a community of honest citizens. Manman, a raftsman, brings the message of "civilization" to the town and this earns him the admiration of the beautiful widow Yang Mei. Liu Yaoxian, the respected local doctor who is thought to possess medicine with magical powers, has long been in love with Yang Mei. Liu Yaoxian has the town on his side and he ends up defeating the young suitor in the contest for Yang Mei's affections. Manman has no alternative but to leave town... |
| Né en 1960 à Hangzhou (Chine), Xiao Feng étudie au département de cinématographie de l'Académie de cinéma de Beijing où il obtient un diplôme en 1982. La même année, il travaille comme directeur photo au Guangxi Film Studio sur de nombreux films dont: ONE AND EIGHT, ROCK KIDS et THE PERSISTENT. Avec DÉCAMÉRON D'UNE VEUVE, il réalise son premier long métrage de fiction.
| Born in Hangzhou, China in 1960, Xiao Feng graduated from the cinematography department of the Beijing Film Academy in 1982. The same year, he joing the Guangxi Film Studio as cinematographer and he has worked in that capacity on numerous films, including ONE AND EIGHT, ARC LIGHT, ROCK KIDS, BLACK SNOW, AMID THE HOWLING WIND, EVENING <\n>LIAISON and THE PERSISTENT. DECAMERON OF A WIDOW marks his directorial debut.
