À l'occasion des funérailles d'un ami commun, quatre personnes vont réaliser qu'il n'est jamais trop tard pour se lier d'amitié, redécouvrir l'amour et, pourquoi pas, vivre une aventure. Il y a Rose, une actrice à la retraite; ensuite Olive, une paraplégique lesbienne, animatrice d'une émission d'entrevues télévisées; Joseph, un radin aux allures brusques qui a déjà été marié pendant cinq longues "journées"; et Woody, un ancien comptable peu sûr de lui qui vit au Sunshine Manor, une pension de retraite. Les quatre amis se rencontrent souvent pour jouer au bridge, ce qui entraîne parfois d'amicales disputes. Mais lorsqu'un jour Woody tombe malade, les trois autres se rallient à lui et découvrent également qu'il est, au même titre que les administrateurs de l'institution, responsable de quelques petits larcins. Malgré leur âge respectable, les trois amis décident de le tirer d'embarras, car ils sont convaincus qu'il n'est jamais trop tard pour bien faire. | NEVER TOO LATE
Rose, a retired actress in a community theatre, is the new "fourth" in a bridge group, a position she acquired thanks to a graveside encounter: she was attending her friend's funeral when she met his bridge cronies and she soon found herself filling his spot at the card table. Rose's new acquaintances in the often rancorous game include Olive, a paraplegic lesbian talk-show host, Joseph, a gruff tightwad once married all of five days, and Woody, an insecure former bookkeeper who lives in the Sunshine Manor retirement home. They spar and they bicker, but when Woody falls sick, the other three rally to his side, where they make some shocking discoveries: both their friend and Sunshine Manor have been hiding some larcenous secrets. Despite the hurdles presented by their age, Rose, Olive and Joseph know they must take action to help Woody. It is never too late, after all, to stand up for love, for friendship and for what's right. |
| Né à Dundee (Écosse) en 1946, Giles Walker est diplômé en cinéma de l'Université Stanford. Il réalise son premier court métrage à l'Office <\n>national du film, suivi de quelques documentaires sur le ski. Il aborde la fiction avec "I Wasn't Scared". D'autres courts métrages suivront. Il tournera ensuite une trilogie de longs métrages sur le féminisme et la condition masculine: THE MASCULINE MYSTIQUE (en coll., 1984), 90 JOURS POUR TOMBER EN AMOUR (1985) et THE LAST STRAW (1987). On lui doit également PRINCES IN EXILE (1990) et ORDINARY MAGIC (1993).
| Born in Dundee, Scotland in 1946, Giles Walker studied film at Stanford University before joining the National Film Board of Canada in the early '70s. He directed a long series of shorts and documentaries for the NFB before beginning a highly successful career in features. Among his better known films are: MASCULINE MYSTIQUE (1984, co-directed with John N. Smith), 90 DAYS (1985), THE LAST STRAW (1987), PRINCES IN EXILE (1990) and ORDINARY MAGIC (1993).
