Karl et Paul étaient les meilleurs amis du monde dans les années 70. Mais lorsqu'ils se rencontrent à nouveau à Londres aujourd'hui, les choses ne sont plus les mêmes. Karl est maintenant Kim et elle n'a aucune envie de revenir sur le passé, désireuse plutôt de se donner une vie ordonnée et dépourvue de problèmes. Paul de son côté a du charme mais se trouve coincé dans un emploi qu'il déteste. Ce qu'il parvient à faire, c'est de les plonger constamment dans des situations difficiles. Lorsque Kim invite Paul à dîner, ce dernier se sent fortement attiré par elle et, ne sachant pas comment se conduire, crée un esclandre qui les mènera tous les deux en cour. C'est alors que Kim se rend chez sa soeur Jean. La vie de Paul devient alors un tourbillon incontrôlable. Il lui faudra du temps pour retrouver Kim et lui demander de venir témoigner en sa faveur au tribunal. Mais entre-temps, leur relation ne se dirige-t-elle pas vers une impasse? | DIFFERENT FOR GIRLS
Karl and Paul were best mates at school in the Seventies, but when they meet again in present-day London, things are definitely not the same. Karl is now Kim and she has no desire to stir up the past while she's busy forging a neat and orderly new life. Paul, on the other hand, has charm but is stuck in a dead-end job and has a knack for getting himself and his friends into trouble. In spite of everything, Kim and Paul slowly begin to renew their friendship. Over dinner at Kim's flat, Paul suddenly finds himself strongly attracted to her. Not knowing quite how to handle his feelings, Paul makes a public display of them both and ends up in court. Humiliated and angry, Kim runs away to her sister. When Paul tracks her down, he finds Kim's attitude to be remarkably cool; for her, this is the natural end to an ill-matched relationship. But Paul needs Kim to testify on his behalf in court... |
| Né au Yorkshire en Grande-Bretagne, Richard Spence entame sa carrière cinématographique en tournant des documentaires dans les années 80. BUDDY HOLLY (1985) remporta même un certain succès. Puis, il se tourne vers la fiction avec NIGHT VOICE et YOU, ME AND MARLEY (1992), film irlandais qui remporta des prix dans des festivals. Il a également réalisé BLIND JUSTICE (1994) pour le réseau américain de télévision payante HBO, et la comédie dramatique SKALLAGRIGG (1994), présentée au Festival des films du monde.
| A native of Yorkshire, England, Richard Spence began directing documentaries in the early 1980s, making films on subjects as diverse as Muzak and the Las Vegas Mercenaries Convention. After directing the award-winning BUDDY HOLLY in 1985, Spence turned to fiction, directing NIGHT VOICE, THACKER and YOU, ME AND MARLEY (1992), an Irish film which won prizes at several festivals. Spence has since directed BLIND JUSTICE (1994), a western for the HBO network, and SKALLAGRIGG, which showed at the 1994 World Film Festival.
