MON NOM EST ADAM

Dans la Roumanie des années 50, le régime communiste instaure une vague d'arrestations et d'interrogatoires, particulièrement à l'endroit des intellectuels. Adam, violoncelliste réputé, n'échappe pas à cette purge. Mais au cours des procédures judiciaires, il va utiliser une série de stratagèmes, fabriquant des histoires de toutes pièces afin de détourner l'attention des enquêteurs et, par conséquent, reporter la sentence qu'il risque de recevoir. Adam trouve sa source d'inspiration dans le souvenir de certains événements qu'il a vécus dans le passé, mais également dans ce qu'il imagine être le futur. Mais après douze années passées sous le joug d'un régime répressif, Adam devient le héros de ses propres histoires. Aujourd'hui, par contre, il va tenter de retrouver sa véritable identité. During the '50s in Romania, the Communist authorities would frequently arrest and interrogate artists and intellectuals. Adam, a master cellist, gets to experience the terror of these interrogations first hand. He adopts the ploy of telling many tangential stories in order to put the interrogators off his scent and after years of practice, years of "remembering" old stories and imagining new ones, Adam begins to reconsider who he really is. Adam, the maestro, plays the role of hero in his own, fantastic stories, and the interrogators, supporting characters. How will he regain his true identity? And what, indeed, is that identity?
Né en 1938, Dan Pit¸a est diplômé de l'Institut d'art théâtral et cinématographique Ion Luca Caragiale de Bucarest. Grâce à ses films en coups de poing, il est rapidement devenu un des chefs de file du cinéma roumain contemporain. De 1990 à 1992, il a été président du Centre national de cinématographie. En 1992, il reçoit le titre d'officier des arts et des lettres présenté par le Ministère de la culture et des communications. Born in Romania in 1938, Dan Pit¸a studied film direction at the Institute of Theatre and Film in Bucharest and since making his debut in 1970 with the short, "La Vie en rose", has been one of the leading directors of contemporary Romanian cinema. His more recent films include: PASO DOBLE (1985), NOVEMBER (1985), THE LAST BALL (1987), THE WHITE LACE DRESS (1988), HÔTEL DE LUXE (1992) and PEPE AND FIFI, which was in official competition in the 1994 World Film Festival.
