With Martin Sheen speaking Fuentes' poetic text, an orchestration of original music by Daniel Valdez, Aztec and Mayan poetry and stunning images recorded in the medium of IMAX, the audience is transported back three millenia to the ancient Olmec, Toltec, Zaptec, Totonac, Aztec and Maya civilizations - the roots of Mexican culture. The abrupt, violent contact with the Spanish conquerors in the early 16th century, dramatized in the overpowering murals of Diego Rivera and Jorge González Camarena, gives way to a fusion of cultures and the birth of a new society. Weaving together powerful visual testimonies of the past with current celebrations of age-old traditions, Mexico's history comes marvellously alive. The audience travels through time from the conquest to the 20th century, building a framework within which to appreciate Mexico today.
