Gabriel García Márquez donne, dans ce scénario, une version contemporaine de l'"Oedipe Roi" de Sophocle. Il transpose la tragédie grecque dans la Colombie d'aujourd'hui, où la peste de Thèbes est remplacée par la violence. Tel l'Oedipe de la tragédie grecque, le Maire doit punir les assassins de Layo. Son enquête l'oriente vers les nombreux groupes armés existant en Colombie: groupes paramilitaires, guérilleros, hommes de main des trafiquants de narcotiques, armée régulière... Et comme dans la pièce antique, le rêve prémonitoire de Layo s'accomplit: Oedipe devient l'assassin de son père, l'époux de sa mère et le père de son frère... 		EDIPO ALCALDE

Gabriel García Márquez offers his contemporary reading of Sophocles' "Oedipus Rex". He sets the Greek tragedy in present-day Colombia, where the current violence takes on a meaning similar to that of the plague of Thebes in Sophocles. Like Oedipus in the Greek tragedy, the Mayor must punish Layo's murderers. His investigation directs him to the numerous armed groups that exist in Colombia - paramilitary groups, guerrillas, members of the drug cartels, the government army, etc. And, as in the ancient tragedy, Layo's premonitory dream comes true: Oedipus becomes his father's murder, his mother's husband and his brother's father...
Né en 1942 à Bogota, Colombie, Jorge Alí Triana est diplômé de <\n>l'École de cinéma de Prague. Il fonde le Centre des arts dramatiques et audiovisuels T.P.B. (Théâtre populaire de Bogota), institution qu'il dirige aujourd'hui, et au sein de laquelle il a mis en scène une trentaine de pièces de théâtre. Producteur et réalisateur de télévision, Triana a adapté, sous forme de mini-téléséries, les oeuvres <\n>des plus célèbres auteurs latino-<\n>américains: Gabriel García Márquez, Sergio Ramirez... Ses films sont: "Historia de la pubertad" (1982, un des sketches de LAS CUATRO EDADES DEL AMOR), "Y asi todos los días" (1983), "Dar de comer al hambriento" (1984), "Enterrar a los muertos" (1984) et TIEMPO DE MORIR (1985).
Born in Bogota, Colombia in 1942, Jorge Alí Triana graduated from FAMU in Prague. He founded the Centre of Dramatic and Audiovisual Arts in Bogota, an institution that he stills heads today. Triana has adapted for television, in mini-series format, works by many of the best known Latin American authors: Gabriel García Márquez, Sergio Ramirez, Jorge Ibarguenguitia, etc. Triani previously collaborated with Gabriel García Márquez on his first feature, TIEMPO DE MORIR (1985). His other films include: "Historia de la pubertad" (1982, one of the sketches of LAS CUATRO EDADES DEL AMOR), "Y asi todos los días" (1983), "Dar de comer al hambriento" (1984) and "Enterrar a los muertos" (1984).
