LES FELUETTES

Automne 1952. Monseigneur Bilodeau rend visite à un vieux détenu, Simon Doucet, pour entendre sa confession. Ce dernier lui raconte alors l'histoire de trois adolescents, histoire qui est survenue quarante ans plus tôt, en 1912. Dès qu'il entend le nom des trois garçons (Vallier de Tilly, Jean Bilodeau et Simon Doucet lui-même), l'évêque reconnaît sa propre histoire et comprend que sa vie est en danger. Pris au piège, il est contraint de regarder d'autres détenus jouer une pièce qui fait renaître les événements d'il y a quarante ans. Cette pièce explore la passion refoulée qui unit (puis sépare) les trois garçons au fil d'une intrigue où s'entremêlent désir et jalousie. Alors que l'action se déroule sous ses yeux, l'évêque Bilodeau est victime d'hallucinations où se confondent la pièce de théâtre et les souvenirs de son enfance à Roberval, sur les rives du lac Saint-Jean. Finalement, Simon confronte l'évêque ébranlé, le forçant à avouer un crime demeuré caché pendant toutes ces années et qui est à l'origine de son emprisonnement à perpétuité. 		LILIES

In the fall of 1952, Bishop Bilodeau is called to hear an aging prisoner's confession. The prisoner, Simon Doucet, recounts a story about three teenaged boys in 1912. When he reveals the names of the boys - Vallier de Tilly, Jean Bilodeau and Simon Doucet - the bishop recognizes his own story and begins to fear for his life. Having locked the door to the confessional, Simon forces the bishop to watch as other prisoners perform a play about forty-year-old events. The play explores the repressed passion that binds - and eventually separates - the three boys in a web of desire and jealousy. As he watches the play unfold, the bishop begins to hallucinate, moving back and forth between the stage and the village of Roberval, where the events of his youth took place. At the end of the play, Simon confronts the overwrought Bilodeau, asking him to confess his guilt for a crime that has been hidden for forty years and which resulted in Simon's life imprisonment.

John Greyson's films and videos (ZERO PATIENCE, THE MAKING OF MONSTERS, URINAL) have been shown at numerous festivals around the world and have received prizes at several, Berlin in particular. Greyson was recently awarded the Jack Babuscio Award in London for his portrayal of gays and lesbians in the cinema. LILIES is adapted from the acclaimed play of the same name by Michel-Marc Bouchard, author of over twenty plays and recipient of the Governor General's Performing Arts Award and the Chalmers Award.
