Kyle, Eric et Brad considèrent la petite maison en bois qu'ils ont construite en pleine forêt comme un sanctuaire, l'endroit idéal où ils peuvent facilement épingler des photos de pin-ups sans que personne ne leur fasse de reproche, ou écouter la musique qu'ils aiment sans devoir baisser le son. Bref, un lieu où ils peuvent se comporter comme de «vrais» hommes. Mais bientôt ils réalisent qu'ils ont besoin d'un peu plus que cela. Kyle et ses camarades veulent vire une aventure. Quand un jour les trois amis entrent dans la petite maison et voient Luke, un inconnu qu'ils trouvent blessé, leur désir commence à devenir réalité. C'est ainsi que le choc et la peur qu'ils éprouvent au début se transforment en enthousiasme et curiosité quand Luke leur apprend qu'il est flic, pris dans une arnaque, apparemment mijotée par un collègue qu'il accuse d'avoir tiré sur lui. Les trois copains décident de l'aider. Mais à mesure que le temps passe, certains comportements de l'inconnu leur laissent croire que quelque chose ne tourne pas rond. Et soudain Luke révèle sa véritable identité... | THE BOYS CLUB
For Kyle, Eric and Brad, a clubhouse in the woods is a sanctuary, a place for pin-ups, loud music and laughs. A place to be men, a place to hang out. AS all three boys stumble through the challenges of adolescence, one thing become clear; they all want an adventure. When the boys enter the shack one day to find Luke, a wounded stranger, pointing a gun at them, the adventure they've been seeking is upon them. But shock and fear swiftly give way to exhilaration when Luke reveals that he's a cop caught in an internal affairs sting that went terribly wrong. He has been shot by another cop and has nowhere to turn. He really needs the help of the boys to survive. The boys are immediately captivated by Luke. They see him as cool and funny; he listens to them and he gives them advice. Nevertheless, as the days pass, the boys become increasingly suspicious and the relationships between them grow strained. What are luke's real intentions? |
| Après avoir suivi des cours de cinéma au Centre
canadien du film sous la direction de Wim Wenders, Dan Petrie
et Thelma Schoonmaker, John Fawcett réalise «Half
Nelson» et «Scratch Ticket» (ce dernier présenté
en 1994 au Festival des films du monde). Fawcett tourne aussi
quelques vidéoclips dont celui pour Lori Yates et les Cowboy
Junkies. Il a aussi réalisé un documentaire («Horizons
Rising: the Spirit of a Nation Tour») et des fictions pour
la télévision. Avec THE BOYS CLUB, il signe son
premier long métrage de fiction.
| John Fawcett studied at the Canadian Film Centre in 1991 under
Wim Wenders, Dan Petrie and Thelma Schoonmaker. He directed "Half
Nelson" and "Scratch Ticket" (which took Best Short
Film honors at the 1994 World Film Festival), as well as several
other shorts and videos. THE BOYS CLUB marks his debut in features.
