| The Burnt Soul
Two brothers in Turkmenistan at the time of the Soviet Union. They have very different attitudes toward life and ways of behaving. One is a loyal supporter of the Soviet Union, the second brother, Sadik, questions everything. What does it mean and what does it take to be a human being? How can you remain loyal to your principles, and not lose faith in the meaning of life? Before his death Sadik contemplates the events of his life. Why have he and his brother chosen such different paths in life? Where did he go wrong? Did he choose the right path or could he have acted differently? His main question: God, why have you created human beings? In order that their lives may run through their fingers like sand? | The Burnt Soul
"Yandym is a sombre political examination of the authoritarian communism of the Stalin era. The main characters in this melodrama are two very different brothers: One supports Soviet power, the other lands in a prison camp. But Yandym does not aim at realistic explanation: the story is repeatedly interspersed with visions and metaphors. The vain attempt of a man to climb a rock face demonstrates the impossibility of happiness on earth." Andr Simonoviescz. |
