Murray Abraham won a well-deserved Oscar as court composer Salieri, whose music rarely rises above mediocrity, while a hedonistic young boor named Mozart turns out masterpieces almost without trying. A must for any music lover, any film lover and anyone who reveres excellence.

Splendid screen version of the Verdi opera with Placido Domingo in excellent voice as Shakespeare's self-tortured hero, Ricciarelli as Desdemona and Diaz as the scheming Iago. A treat for film-going opera buffs.
