TASTE OF BODY (SHEN TI DE ZI WEI)
TASTE OF BODY offers a rare moment in the spotlight for modern dance in China. The art form is relatively new in the country and has long been upstaged by such genres as theatre and music. This documentary explores the exchange process between prominent American choreographer Tere O’Connor and the young dancers of the Beijing Modern Dance Company over the concept of improvisational creation and the rehearsal of Offerings as choreographed by well known Chinese modern dance choreographer Gao Yanjinzi. The film observes the differences and similarities between the respective creative approaches.
Wang Fan
Born in 1976, Wang Fan trained in traditional Chinese dance from the age of seven and graduated from the Xi'an Foreign Languages University. Visiting New York in 2006 she was inspired by Tere O'Connor's "Baby" and decided to document his choreographic process. She directed a commercial for the Beijing Olympics and assisted Bruce Beresford on MAO'S LAST DANCER (2009).
