DÉGAGE

December 17 was the day on which Mohamed Bouazizi set fire to himself in front of the governor's office in Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia. Bouazizi's self-immolation kindled the start of a wave of revolts across North Africa and the Middles East, soon known as the "Arab Spring". Begun by proletarians and young idealists hoping to install societies ruled by individual liberty and social justice, the revolutions in Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and elsewhere has now been appropriated by the Islamists who are now threatening to shatter the dreams and hopes of an entire generation.

Mohamed Zran

Tunisian filmmaker Mohamed Zran graduated from ESEC, the Paris film school, and has been directing shorts and documentaries for over two decades. Selected filmography: Le Casseur de pierre (1990), Ya Nabil (1993), LE CHANT DU MILLÉNAIRE (doc., 2003), VIVRE ICI (doc., 2010). He made his first fiction feature, LE PRINCE, in 2004.
