SISTER

The story of health workers in Ethiopia, Cambodia and Haiti, who work under difficult circumstances and the reality of maternal mortality as a human rights issue. Among the faces behind the statistics: an ex-freedom fighter who is now the head of the Tigray Health Bureau in Ethiopia makes safe motherhood a priority; a charismatic Ethiopian health officer at a rural hospital; a rural midwife working in a heavily land-mined area of Cambodia; a captivating Haitian midwife, herself fighting poverty, working in a volatile, densely populated urban area.

Brenda Davis

Brenda Davis grew up in Toronto and currently lives and works in the US. She has over twenty years' experience in various facets of filmmaking, mainly in scriptwriting and research. She shot five short films on her own for NGOs. SISTER marks her debut in feature documentaries.
