AFRICA: THE BEAT

Nzali, an enclave in the heart of Tanzania, is where the Wagogo live. Theirs is a musical universe and this film takes a trip into it, documenting their daily reality and the importance of music in it. Day and night, the passage of time and the seasons, nature and the elements, water, words and stories, the stages of life -- everything that happens has a musical pulse. The joint perspective of a painter, a filmmaker and two musicians, AFRICA: THE BEAT bears witness to the essential place of music in this culture.

Samaki Wanne

The Samaki Wanne group is made up Javier Arias Bal, composer and musicologist; Polo Vallejo, ethno-musicologist and composer; Manuel Velasco, painter; and Pablo Vega, filmmaker. This is their first foray into filmmaking.
