KONSHIN

Originally, Sumo was not a sport but a sacred ceremony. On the Oki islands, the classic sumo ceremony remains and is held on auspicious occasions. Being selected as top ranked Ozeki is one of the islands' greatest honours and the chance of a lifetime. Some men quit their jobs on the mainland and return to the islands to become candidates for selection. "Konshin" means "the whole body", and refers not only to the physical but to the mental. This drama revolves around the classic sumo culture that is still alive on the Oki islands.
