2010 World Film Festival Poster

The World Film Festival has announced that a work by Hubert Samson will be its official poster for the 2010 edition of the festival, to be held August 26 to September 6.

The poster of the 2010 World Film Festival was selected in voting by the public from among three finalists, all students in graphic arts at L'Université du Québec à Montréal. Their professor, Philippe Béha, who designed the official MWFF poster in 1986, had assigned his students the task of designing a poster for the 2010 Festival.

The filmgoing public was invited to select one of the three final designs and to comment on the reasons for their choice. Among the numerous comments was that of film teacher Éric Montpetit, whose words are eloquent testimony to the feelings of those who voted for Hubert Samson's poster:

"The act of seeing is nicely synthesized in this image of a person with multiple eyes, a symbol, at once, of the variety of views expressed in the Festival's program and of the subjective gaze of each spectator. The blurred contours of the person's body suggests that he is quivering: affected, shaken, moved by what he is seeing. This vibration brings to mind, as well, the throbbing of the light as it passes through the film and onto the screen. A beautiful evocation of the 'motion picture'. Bravo!"
