8 WOMEN
In an isolated French country house in the 1950s, a family has gathered for the holidays. But there won't be any celebration this Christmas: the family patriarch has been found murdered in his bed! The killer can only be one of the eight women closest to the man of the house. Was it his domineering wife? His spinster sister-in-law? His miserly mother-in-law? Maybe the insolent chambermaid or the loyal housekeeper? Or could it possibly be one of his two pretty young daughters? A surprise visit from the victim's glamorous sister turns the investigation into a day of hysterics, rivalries and musical interludes. Comic situations are spiced with dark family secrets. Seduction dances with betrayal. The mystery of the female psyche is revealed. Eight women, all of them suspects. Each has a motive, each a secret. Eight beautiful, tempestuous, intelligent, sensual and dangerous women. And at least one of them is guilty..."A spoofy murder-mystery-farce, 8 WOMEN is what GOSFORD PARK might have been like if John Waters and Jacques Demy had gotten their gaudy mitts on it." -- Neil Young (Jigsaw Lounge)"Clearly not one to be stuffed into a stylistic straitjacket... Ozon has flamboyant fun (in this) old-fashioned Agatha Christie-ish whodunit made over as high camp with songs and an all-female cast." -- Benny Crick (Screen Daily International)
