TEMPTATIONS
Marci is a talented university student of computer programming for whom everyone predicts a great future. But what Marci is most interested in is the identity of his biological father. His mother Anna, chief accountant at a big bank, showers him with love, but she refuses to tell him his father's identity and this refusal is becoming an issue of considerable hostility between mother and son. Also causing friction at home are Marci's relationship with Elvira, a sexy college mate, and the occasional presence of Elek, Anna's married lover. When Anna relents and reveals that his father is an alcoholic, near-bankrupt farmer named Tibor, Marci immediately approaches Tibor and, without revealing his own identity, offers to work in exchange for room and board. Here Marci meets Juli, a 12-year-old gypsy girl whose family offers to sell her to Marci for three crates of onions. The exchange is an ambiguous one. The girl's grandfather expects Juli home at the end of the day but her grandmother tells her that she is now Marci's husband and expected to bear him children. When Marci discovers that the otherworldly girl also has telekinetic skills, he's not too quick to give her up. The couple devise a plan to rob the local bank by using Juli's powers to hack its computer but things begin degenerating when Juli becomes jealous of Elvira."Ancient traditions clash with the contemporary world of a restless young Magyar in TEMPTATIONS, a consistently intriguing and ultimately provocative film that marks a change of pace for director Zoltn Kamondi." -- David Stratton (Variety)
