MY BROTHER SILK ROAD
A railway line now cuts across the Kyrgyz steppe where once the Silk Road ran. Four children, including their brash leader, set out from their native village in the mountains on a journey to the railway track, hoping that the next train will carry them away. And a train is indeed making its way across the steppe. Their encounter with this train will dramatically change the lives of at least two of the children. One of the train's passengers is an artist. Following a squabble on board, the train comes to a halt and the man is let out, in the middle of nowhere. This is where he meets the children. Soon sensing that this encounter could provide a new twist to his life, the oldest of the children asks the painter permission to accompany him. And so the two of them -- an impoverished painter and his young novice -- set off on foot together. The other boy and a girl decide to join a passing shepherd and return with him to their village. As for the second girl, despite getting friendly with the painter, she prefers a future far away, a future to which only the trail of the old Silk Road can take her.
