RANA'S WEDDING (JERUSALEM, ANOTHER DAY)
Rana, a young Palestinian woman who lives in East Jerusalem wakes up at 6 a.m. one morning and is faced with a momentous decision. Her wealthy father is moving to Cairo and she is scheduled to leave with him on the 4 p.m. plane. Unless she can get married before then. Her father had given her a list of eligible men -- doctors, lawyers, engineers -- but Rana doesn't know any of them personally and, anyway, she prefers someone else. He's Khalil, a theatre director. She is determined to find him before the deadline. Travelling by taxi and on foot, Rana sets out through the city and braves Israeli roadblocks to reach Ramallah, where Khalil had spent the night in his theatre. Sleepily, he agrees to her proposal. Now they have to actually go through with it. Rana, Khalil and their actor friend Ramzy race around in a small car collecting the necessary material -- documents, a wedding dress, an official to perform the ceremony. But their is an Intifada going on. People try to sneak through roadblocks while soldiers shoot at rock-throwing demonstrators. There are obstacles everywhere. And time is winding down...
