25 KIDS & ONE DAD
Since the economic reforms in China, living standards have gone up even in rural areas. Zhao Guang, a rich chicken farmer, was once a orphan who was raised by the villagers. When he was a child he was called "Bare-assed Zhao" as he had no clothes to wear. Later, unmarried and with no girlfriend, he earned another nickname, "Bachelor Zhao", and now they call him "Glorious Zhao", to reflect his new economic status. In a local ceremony, Zhao donates 10,000 yuan to the welfare institute. As the cameras roll, Zhao excitedly announces that he wants to be the father of all the orphans in the area. No sooner has he made the announcement than a host of orphans come forward from near and far, some genuine, many fake. Zhao is taken aback. In order to satisfy their educational needs, the village council suggests that Zhao set up a temporary school for the children. Not everyone in the village is happy with Zhao's plans, especially his fianc�e Liu Guiding and her mother. Zhao's peaceful life is now thoroughly disrupted. But Zhao develops a deep affection for his "orphans". He has no intention of letting them down.
Huang Hong
One of the best-known comic actors in Chinese theatre, Huang Hong was born in 1960 and received his masters from Beijing University. He has won numerous awards for his acting over the years -- the Wenhua Award, the Co Yu Drama Award and the PLA Arts Award among others. A member of the Chinese Federation for Literature and Art, he has had collections of comic plays published. In 2000 he shifted to acting for television and appeared in a series entitled The Busy Party Member Named Jin Zhu, for which he earned the Golden Eagle Award for best actor. 25 KIDS & ONE DAD marks his feature debut both as an actor and a director.
