THE MARS CANON
Kinuko, 29, is involved in a secret affair with Kouhei, 43, a married man. They meet once a week, on Tuesdays, have dinner and sleep together in a hotel. Kouhei spends the rest of the week with his family. Kinuko seems satisfied with this arrangement until she meets Manabe, a street poet, and his friend Hijiri, who is staying at Manabe's apartment temporarily. Hijiri urges Kinuko to end her relationship with Kouhei: "It's wrong for you to have an extramarital affair." The following day, turned out of Manabe's apartment, Hijiri shows up at Kinuko's. She gets deeply involved with Kinuko, nursing her back from a cold. Kinuko and Hijiri become intimate despite Kouhei's objections and Kinuko is torn between the two."Whether I make films or not, the world will always be full of fighting, people will still love one another, hate one another, sometimes together, other times apart... The least I can do is quietly depict a simple, common love story you can find anywhere. I do not know how to break the chain of hatred. But I'd like to cherish the tiniest feeling of love." -- Shiori Kazama
