DOG STAR
Shiro is a 12-year-old guide dog who is the faithful companion to a retired boxer, Gong. When Gong gets run over and killed by a truck that has run a red light, Shiro is returned to his training centre. There he sees his master, Gong, who explains that although he is dead, he cannot enter heaven until he has done a good deed. Gong tells Shiro that his good deed will be for the dog, and, as promised, within a few minutes, Shiro is transformed into a human by borrowing the body of a young man who has just passed away. This fulfills Shiro's own wish -- to meet the family who had taken care of him when he was a still a puppy, nurturing him until he was old enough to begin training. It was Haruka and her family who were Shiro's "puppy-walkers" and Haruka is now a grown woman. Using his canine sense of smell, Shiro tracks her down at a local kindergarten. Haruka is wary at first; Shiro seems a bit eccentric to her. But, over time, as she begins to work with him at a mobile zoo, she finds herself attracted to this mysterious stranger. Shiro, meanwhile, is falling in love. "You may look fit," Gong warns him, "but you only have about a year left to live. Do you think you can afford to fall in love? Your love may be requited but, in the end, when you're gone, you'll only make her grieve over you." Shiro acknowledges the truth of Gong's warning but he cannot bring himself to leave Haruka...
Takahisa Zeze
Born in 1960, Takahisa Zeze graduated from Kyoto University and began his filmmaking career with short films in 8 and 16 mm. In 1986 he joined Shishi Productions as an assistant director. He made his directorial debut three years later with GOOD LUCK JAPAN. His filmography includes: NO MAN'S LAND (1991), THE DREAM OF GARUDA (1994), RAIGYO (1997), KOKKURI (1997), COLD-BLOODED TRAP (1998), HYSTERIC (2000), RUSH! (2000) and TOKYO X EROTICA (2001).
