ABSOLUT WARHOLA
Located somewhere in the middle of nowhere, in the "Ruthenian Bermuda Triangle" between Slovakia, Poland and the Ukraine, is Europe's only pop art museum. Stanislaw Mucha's light-hearted documentary traces the roots of American pop icon Andy Warhol whose family heritage can be tracked down to the town of Medzilaborce in Eastern Slovakia and the neighbouring village of Mikov. The Warhola clan has always lived here and they always will. His aunts and cousins, mostly out of work, have lots of time on their hands along with plenty of schnapps and a willingness to talk about their favourite son. Everyone in the region has heard of Andy Warhol, even if what they've heard isn't always comprehensible. His name is a legend. He is a vision, a tangible link to a world that they don't fully understand, a world so big and so incredibly far away."This isn't a film about Andy Warhol, it's about the people who live in Medzilaborce and Mikov. When I look at the film, I am convinced that there was no such person as Andy Warhol and that these people merely invented him to improve their lives in some way -- so that they could retain a little glimmer of hope for a better life." -- Stanislaw Mucha
