DANCE FOR YOUR LIFE
Dancing can be sublime, but there is often a steep price to pay. This documentary is a realistic examination of the pain and the euphoria that exist side by side as professional dancers practice their art. The will to dance shapes individual dancers in different ways. Although the film deconstructs the romantic public image of the world of dance, it also uses excerpts from the 1944 classic THE RED SHOES to show how the exigencies of the art at once attract young dancers and force them into very difficult life choices. Among the dancers interviewed for the film: Anik Bissonnette, Vincent Warren, Sylvain Lafortune, Olivier Wecxsteen, Estelle Clareton, Michael Cole, Margie Gillis, Saravanan Sundararajan.

Marie Brodeur
A modern ballet dancer in Quebec for over a decade, Marie Brodeur abandoned dance in 1985 to do audiovisual research into oriental religion and dance. The result of this research and numerous visits to the Orient was La Danse en Asie : la magie en mouvement (1992). She has since directed several other videos, on dance, poetry and literature: Brute (1994), Hero (1996), LES MOTS DITS (1997), A Bird in His Pockets (1998) and Dance of the Warrior (2001).
