UNFORESEEN
The trouble starts when Derek, chief executive for his family's hotel empire, begins to contemplate marriage to his pretty new girlfriend, Anastasia. After inadvertently insulting his prospective fiance by asking her to sign a prenuptial agreement, Derek then impulsively promises Anastasia half of everything he has. Before he knows what's hit him, Derek is divorced, financially and socially ruined and he has unfairly served six months of hard jail time. Completely isolated, he retreats into his own mind and contemplates suicide. His lone remaining friend, Ted, tries to help him, but Derek becomes unhinged and embarks on a nightmarish odyssey that culminates with him badly injured and for a while near-catatonic, in a dingy hospital room. Lying in bed delirious, still unable to let go of the past, he hires an assassin..."The elemental film noir premise of a hero seduced, fleeced and fled by a femme fatale -- with revenge the obsession that results -- gets an unusually stark workout in Ed Barkin's indie UNFORESEEN." -- Dennis Harvey (Variety)
