THE DESERTED STATION
On their way way to Mashad in a car, a young couple are involved in an accident. Their car is inoperable. The man, who is a photographer and has been taking pictures all through the trip, makes his way to a small nearby village where he finds a schoolteacher who has some skills at repairing cars. While the man and the teacher go back to tend to the disabled car, the young woman, who was once a schoolteacher herself, begins teaching the local children in the single classroom of the village. As the two men work on the car, the young woman slowly becomes acquainted with the children and the other villagers."THE DESERTED STATION was born out of a series of accidents. The initial spark occured during a trip with Abbas Kiarostami to the spot which later served as the film's location (itself another accident). And what occurred during the shooting was an unfortunate accident involving the lead actor, resulting in an unexpected ending for the film. When one sees the actor's broken leg, the fact that he continued to work is remarkable. It gives us an idea of the bizarre nature of accidents." -- Alireza Raisian
