RUSTLING LANDSCAPES
Unhappy in his relationship with his girlfriend Katarina, Luka, in his late twenties, decides to get away to the Bela Krajina countryside. She follows him in the hope that they can sort things out. But, despite the beauty and tranquility of their surroundings, things become even more complicated and their relationship deteriorates. When Katarina becomes friendly with a happy-go-lucky soldier, Primoz, new horizons, new choices are available for her. Ultimately all three young people must decide which roads to take.RUSTLING LANDSCAPES is the first Slovenian feature to be filmed without a shooting script. Rehearsals involved discussion of the situations to be filmed and how the characters would react under various circumstances. Then the action was shot with improvised dialogue over a two-week schedule in the remote Bela Krajina region of Slovenia.

A graduate of the Ljubljana (Slovenia) Film Academy, Janez Lapajne has directed several short films, including The Smile (1996) and Breakages (1997), the latter winning prizes in Slovenian and Polish festivals. RUSTLING LANDSCAPES marks his debut in features.
