HITLER, STALIN AND ME
Hedy Margolius-Kovaly survived two of the most brutal dictatorships in human history. Born into a prominent Jewish family in Prague, she married lawyer Rudolf Margolius just in time to have the entire family deported to the Lodz ghetto in Poland. Sent to Auschwitz, she was separated from her husband and put into a labour camp from which she escaped. Her husband also survived, and after the war he became a minister in the Czech Communist government before being tried and executed during the Slansky purges. Now the widow of a "traitor", Hedy fled Prague after the Soviet invasion of 1968, returning only in 1989. This is the story of her astonishing life.
