A PRIVATE AFFAIR
It's been six months since Rachel Siprien disappeared. At the request of Rachel's mother, private detective Franois takes over the investigation. The young woman's personality, complex and multi-faceted, fits into a strange network consisting of her best friend Clarisse, her ex-boyfriend, her stepfather, her neighbours and everyone who knows her well or even slightly. Franois begins to frequent these various friends and acquaintances. He penetrates into Rachel's daytime and nighttime habitats, spying, asking disturbing questions, filling in the many blanks left in the answers he is given. Franois' private life, already complicated by an ex-wife and a mistress with a jealous husband, gets even more thorny with the addition of an affair with Clarisse and police problems that arise when Rachel's body is found. Franois takes the blows and delivers some himself. Little by little he begins to piece together the immense puzzle that was Rachel Siprien.
