LOVERS (DOGMA 5)
Paris. This is the love story of a 25-year-old Yugoslav painter, Dragan, and Jeanne, a Frenchwoman of about the same age. We see how they meet and how they spend a first night together. But their happiness is shattered when, during a routine identification check, it turns out that Dragan is in France illegally. He has no visa and must leave the country within three days. A love that was destined to endure happily ever after is suddenly in danger of being cut very short. Jeanne and Dragan decide that they'll break the law in order to stay together, even if it means going underground. This situation at once tests and strengthens their love. At times they feel blissful and free. But, in fact, their situation is quite precarious: there is always the risk of a knock on the door and a visit by the immigration authorities. All of this is told according to the charter of the Dogma 95 group -- founded by Danish directors Thomas Vinterberg (THE CELEBRATION), Lars von Trier (DANCER IN THE DARK), Kristian Levring and Sren Kragh-Jacobsen -- whose rules require films to be shot on location by a hand-held camera, without background music, special lighting or filters.
