THE IDOL
In an old Paris apartment block, Zao, an elderly Chinese man, crosses paths with Sarah, a troubled young Australian actress who has just moved in across the hallway. Sarah is understudy to the lead actress of a new production and is having an affair with the woman's husband, the lead actor. One day she reveals her plans for a vengeful suicide to her Chinese neighbour and he proposes a pact: he'll cook for her until that fateful date. And so begins an ambiguous and subtly erotic friendship, under the ever watchful and envious eyes of the building's other inhabitants, all of whom do their best to disrupt this mystifying relationship.

She made her well-noticed feature debut with THE WELL (1997), and followed that with THE MONKEY'S MASK (2000).
