FANCY DANCING
So Asa's never worked a day in his life. He doesn't have too. He's an artist, a composer with an obsession with music from the bygone era of 1940s big bands and 1930s crooners. He manages to eke out a wonderful Bohemian life from his modest trust fund; he lives at the aging old Empress Hotel in a lost world full of eccentric old showbusiness characters while he spends most of his time writing songs and trying to seduce women -- some of whom even succumb to his charms when he puts on his white tie and top hat, twirls a cane and sings beneath their windows. The only thing Asa loves more than his music is his son Michael, who lives with Asa's disapproving ex-wife Charity and her socially conscious boyfriend. And Michael loves his dad. Trouble is, Asa loves club-hopping and sees nothing wrong with bringing his boy along. One night Asa goes too far and faces an ultimatum from Charity and both their families: straighten up or lose access to Michael. Asa gives it a shot. He goes to work for his uncle Billy, part Scottish comedian and part bellicose corporate taskmaster. Billy runs a successful ad agency downtown and at first it looks like Asa will work out -- once he gets the hang of the 9-to-5 thing. The real test comes when Asa and co-worker Karen are assigned to generate a campaign for Rum Coolies. Asa has a dynamite idea, but it means selling out his idol. Suddenly he has to grow up. Suddenly he has to face the music.
